It is reported that Molex, a supplier of interconnection products, has announced the launch of a customized capacitive level sensor, a low-cost measurement solution with disposable sensors and reusable electronic circuits, designed for measuring fluid or granular materials in non-metallic containers, sensor electrode design and patent approval. Configurable software provides higher accuracy, lower hardware cost and easier installation.

It is reported that Molex, a supplier of interconnection products, has announced the launch of a customized capacitive level sensor, a low-cost measurement solution with disposable sensors and reusable electronic circuits, designed for measuring fluid or granular materials in non-metallic containers, sensor electrode design and patent approval. Configurable software provides higher accuracy, lower hardware cost and easier installation. Steve Fulton, Molex Engineering Manager, said: "Customers need to consider many factors when selecting fluid monitoring equipment for industrial and commercial processes. Capacitive liquid level sensors solve the problem of detecting substances in containers. They can continuously measure thresholds without direct contact with materials." Customized capacitive level sensor is optimized for medical fluid management system, automobile fuel tank, agricultural liquid cylinder, hydraulic fluid and pump control, beverage distribution system and other industrial applications. Capacitive sensors have a variety of output interface options, including SB, I2C and discrete signals, providing a customized interface to meet almost any application requirements. These sensors have 95% accuracy in automatic mode and 98% accuracy in manual calibration. Users can configure embedded software for maintenance-free automatic calibration or manual calibration to maximize sensor accuracy.

It is known that capacitive sensors are equipped with flexible circuits, which can be easily installed outside the container by pressure sensitive adhesives. Besides measuring granular and powdery materials, they can also measure corrosive fluids. These sensors can measure almost any nonmetallic material. Capacitive sensor uses solid-state capacitance technology without moving parts, eliminating the mechanical wear problem caused by time. Capacitive sensor has flexibility in design. The sensor substrate selection includes PCB, polyester flexible circuit and Polyimide Flexible circuit. In terms of design, traditional PCB can be used for flat surface containers, or thin flexible circuits can be used for bending surfaces or space-constrained applications. The new liquid level capacitive sensor can work with almost any Molex interconnection products or cable components. They are fully compatible with the integrated design of customized user interface using Molex, including thin film switch and capacitive touch technology.
